TRAINING CONTENT: Training will include, but is not be limited to:

  • Awareness/sensitivity training
  • Cultural competency specific to emergency planning and access and functional needs;
  • Introduction to Core Advisory Groups where people with developmental and other disabilities are actively involved and provide input into how emergency response activities should unfold;
  • Proper response to individuals with disabilities and how to involve them;
  • Adherence to the Americans with Disabilities Act related to Emergency Response Sheltering, effective communication, transportation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • Access and Functional Needs (AFN) defined
  • Disabilities defined in the context of emergency planning, preparedness, response, and recovery
  • Use of Registries and how to maximize outreach
  • Recognition and utilization of Personal Assistance Services; and
  • Emergency Plan development and content that is inclusive of  persons with disabilities (PWDs) and AFN both in the body of and input to the end product
