Topic: The Blizzard of the Century - Healthcare Response & Lessons Learned
Recorded On: November 29, 2023
Description: Beginning in the early afternoon of Dec. 23, 2022, the Buffalo area was subjected to a historic extratropical cyclone that that lasted nearly 2 days. The unprecedented winter storm brought high winds, sub-zero temps, heavy lake-effect snow and zero-visibility conditions ultimately resulting in 47 deaths. All major highways in western New York were closed for four to five days and first response agencies were unable to provide services due to the crippling conditions. This webinar will focus on the healthcare response and lessons learned from facilities that were directly impacted by this “once-in-a-generation storm” in Buffalo: hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities as well as individuals that staffed the ESF 6 and ESF 8 desk at the Erie County Health Operation Center.
