Module 2 of 10 for the Universal Safety Training was developed for the New York State Department of Health Office of Aging and Long-Term Care using the Universal Safety and Establishing Trusting Relationships program (TRUST) designed by the New York State Department of Mental Health in January of 2024. It was developed in response to safety concerns that were raised by members of the Surveillance Team. The program is designed to teach staff members how to recognize and respond to potential risks in their workplace. Furthermore, it provides staff with strategies for building trust across the board with colleagues, as well as with the residents we serve and ensuring a safe working environment for all. Finally, it encourages staff to reflect on their own practice and identify areas for improvement.
Universal Safety Training is divided into ten (10) online modules that should be taken in order. When complete, a student should then sign up for the in person Defensive Techniques four (4) hour presentation and skills demonstration.
After successful completion of the ten (10) online modules and in person Defensive Techniques presentation and skills demonstration, the student will be awarded a completion certificate that should be renewed annually.
