Building Competency in Emergency Management Program
Course A: Risks & Plans
This course introduces participants to the core principles of emergency management, including the four phases (Mitigation, Planning, Preparedness, Response, Recovery) and the fundamentals of the Incident Command System (ICS). Participants will identify and prioritize hazards, build threat matrices, and learn about plans aligned with community and organizational risks.
Objectives:
- Gain awareness and understand the four principles of EM (Mitigation, Planning, Response, Recovery)
- Learn and develop a threat matrix for hazard awareness and prioritization
- Develop an understanding of the principles of ICS including use of plain language, span of control, chain of command, and common roles
- Understand the importance of plan development in line with threats, plan maintenance, and plan activation
