Course Overview

Day 1: HERT Classroom Learning

This class is designed to provide guidance to hospital staff and others who may be required to support the hospital in an MCI involving contamination because of a natural, accidental, or intentional incident. This course will prepare students to be able to apply the relationships between the federal response requirements, the hospital incident response system, and how a hospital emergency response team operates.

Day 2: HERT Hands-On Learning
The hands-on portion of 2-Day HERT will review the skills needed to perform successful and safe decontaminations operations for MCI patients exposed to a chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards. Day-2 will place an emphasis on patient decontamination operation requirements, set up and operation, healthcare facility decontamination capability, proper operations in required personal protective equipment, and the performance of patient triage and lifesaving interventions. Please wear clothing you are comfortable moving around in and that is appropriate for the weather – we will be outside for this portion of the course.
