Course Description
The Basic Environmental Health Program (BEHP) is an introductory training program designed to equip entry-level environmental health personnel with the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to develop competency in their initial and future duties. The BEHP is recognized as the health training course approved by the State Health Department pursuant to Part 11 of the State Sanitary Code for individuals employed in Public Health Sanitarian and Public Health Technician titles in New York State. Experienced environmental and public health staff, faculty, and industry experts provide a rich overview of major environmental and public health components and programs conducted in New York, together with instruction on the related specialized science and technology. Designed to prepare staff for additional specialized training and mentored experience, the program is coordinated for the New York State Department of Health through an agreement with the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences. The program consists of In-person courses, recorded and live webinars, recorded presentations and, online self-paced courses. There are no registration or tuition fees.
Participation in the BEHP is limited based on the number of registration openings available and priority is given to individuals in the Public Health Technician and Public Health Sanitarian titles, as per the requirements of Part 11 of the State Sanitary Code (10 NYCRR). The BEHP and its modules are designed to be completed in its entirety within a designated timeframe.
