Course Description
This course is a recording of the Flood Mitigation, Storm Response, Emergency Response Framework workshop from the New York State Local Health Department Climate and Health Adaptation Workshop series. The workshop was held on October 27th, 2022 and includes speakers from both state and local health departments. In the recording, Dr. Christopher Ryan, Carrie Horton, and Michael Bender of the Broome County Health Department discuss their experiences and lessons learned from recent flooding events in the Binghamton NY area. Brigitte McAuliffe and Peter Cichetti from the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services provide an overview of NYS Hazard Mitigation Programs as well as a description of the NYS Office of Emergency Management and how this office helps to coordinate activities related to preparing for and responding to disasters and other emergencies.
By viewing this course, participants will learn about steps that can be taken at the local health department level to prepare for flood and storm events. They will also learn about resources and programs at the state level that can help support local efforts regarding flood mitigation, storm response, and emergency response.
