After the webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Examine the complex issue of food insecurity and analyze its far-reaching effects on individual and community health outcomes.
  2. Explore effective strategies public health professionals can employ to detect, prevent, and mitigate food insecurity within diverse populations. 
  3. Evaluate the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and assess how shifts in health policy can influence the well-being and livelihoods of everyday Americans. 


This program has been approved for 1.0 Category I Continuing Education Credit for CHES/MCHES by the Rutgers School of Public Health. The Rutgers School of Public Health is a certified CHES/MCHES provider by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc.

This program has been approved for 1.0 Certified in Public Health (CPH) credit by the Region 2 Public Health Training Center. The Region 2 Public Health Training Center is a certified CPH provider by the National Board of Public Health Examiners.

 

 

 

Webinar Description

This webinar examines the relationship between food insecurity and public health, emphasizing its impact on population well-being. Participants will explore the health consequences of food insecurity and learn evidence-based approaches to assess and address it within communities. The webinar also reviews the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and considers how recent federal policy decisions may affect its reach and effectiveness. Overall, the webinar highlights the critical influence of food policy and food insecurity on health outcomes. 

 

 

 

 

Speaker Bio 

Tamika Gillot, M.Sc

Nutritionist and Consultant 

Driven by a passion for advancing health equity through nutrition and evidence-based care, Tamika Gillot is a healthcare operations professional with experience spanning clinical, research, hospital operations, and leadership. She brings a systems-focused approach to improving care delivery and patient outcomes, blending analytical insight with practical implementation. Tamika earned her M.S. in Human Nutrition from Columbia University and is currently completing her nutrition coach certification, deepening her expertise in translating science into actionable, sustainable health strategies. 

She has led cross-functional initiatives that improved clinical and operational workflows, developed culturally responsive nutrition materials, and supported research across different facets of healthcare resulting in multiple publications. Through her consulting, Tamika helps health and wellness organizations design scalable programs that integrate nutrition. Grounded in the belief that nutrition is foundational to well-being, she is committed to making preventive, high-quality care accessible to all.
