Course Description
This course is a recording of the Vector-Borne Diseases, Harmful Algal Blooms, Food Security workshop from the New York State Local Health Department Climate and Health Adaptation Workshop series. The workshop was originally held on November 3rd, 2022. In the recording, Faith Lustik from the Jefferson County Public Health Service presents on Farm to School in Jefferson County and how to get involved in Farm to School initiatives. Dr. Scott R. Campbell from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services discusses vector borne diseases and climate change, as well as impacts climate change may have on vector borne disease programs. Eileen O’Connor and Deanna Ryan from the Cayuga County Health Department present on their county’s experiences with harmful algal blooms.
By viewing this course, participants will learn about each of the main topics, as well as how they are connected to climate change. They will also learn about steps that can be taken at the local level to address the environmental health risks focused on in this recording.
