The certificate program addresses Tier 1 competencies in each of the 8 domains of the Council on Linkages Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals.

The certificate includes 11 self-paced, online courses and takes approximately 12-14 hours to complete. Individual courses provide continuing education credit for nurses, physicians and certified health education specialists. There is no time limit to complete the certificate, but participants are strongly encouraged to complete all online coursework 6 months post-registration.

Who should complete this certificate?

  • Professionals new to the field of public health.
  • Professionals currently working in public health with limited or no formal education in the field.
  • Professionals who want a basic understanding or refresher on the foundations and principles of public health.

Enrolling in the Program

Scroll down to the bottom of the program description page, you will find a Course Status Table displaying your status for each course in the program. To enroll in the program you must click on the “Begin Program Enrollment” button below the course status table. On the resultant page you must scroll down beneath the course status table and enroll (choose section and continuing education credits, if applicable) for each program course that you are not yet enrolled in or have not yet completed.

If you have completed any of the constituent program courses outside of the LMS, they will not display as complete on the LMS. To correct this, please contact the LMS administrator at edlearn@health.state.ny.us and include electronic copies of any relevant completion certificates.

Tracking your progress

Participants may want to track their progress to ensure they meet the requirements for core and elective courses. Page 7 of the Student Guidebook http://www.albany.edu/sph/cphce/foph_guidebook.pdf  includes a tracking sheet that may be used for this purpose.

Note: Please allow up to two weeks before completed courses are moved to your completed tab in the LMS.
