Course Description

The purpose of this training is to enhance the capacity of local health department staff to conduct public health detailing to medical health care providers on how to perform oral health screenings and fluoride varnish application to children in the medical setting to reduce tooth decay. 

Learning Outcome:

After completing this activity, the learner will expand their skill set to include public health detailing to improve the delivery of preventive oral health care for children in the medical setting.

Learning Objectives: 

After participating in the training, attendees will be able to:  

  1. Describe public health detailing and its role in public health strategies 

  1. Characterize public health detailing success  

  1. Analyze how to plan for a public health detailing strategy in your community 

  1. Demonstrate skills in initiating conversations with medical practices 

  1. Compose messages for building physician "buy in" for applying fluoride varnish 

  1. Identify characteristics of a detailer
