Course Description
The HazMat for First Receiver Operations Level Refresher is OSHA compliant. For details please refer to
OSHA Best Practices for Hospital-Based First Receivers, section C.0
.
PURPOSE:
Participants will receive information on principles of contamination, the pathophysiology and initial medical management of CBRN agents and decontamination response logistics as required to meet annual awareness training and the didactic portion of the annual *refresher training.
TARGET AUDIENCE:
Awareness:
Staff who may come in contact with contaminated individuals arriving (self presenting) to the hospital. Examples include ED clinicians, ED clerks, ED triage staff and hospital security.
Refresher:
Staff who have been designated to provide treatment, triage, decontamination or other services to contaminated individuals.

Prerequisites
Awareness:
None or previously trained at the Awareness Level.
*Refresher:
Trained to Operations level under 29CFR1910.120 (q) (6) (ii).
*NOTE: In order to meet OSHA standards for
annual refresher training
, staff will need to demonstrates competency in the proper donning and doffing of PPE, review their hospital specific hazmat plans and complete their hospital's respirator medical evaluation questionnaire. Per OSHA, first responder awareness training can count towards the 8-hour Operations Level training.
