The purpose of this activity is to enhance the capacity of local health department staff to train medical health care providers to perform oral health screening and fluoride varnish application to children in the medical setting to reduce tooth decay. 

Learning Outcome
After completing this activity, the learner will be able to expand their knowledge and competence in all strategies for reducing the prevalence and severity of early childhood caries while still reversible and much less costly to treat.

Learning Objectives
After viewing the webcast participants will be able to:

  • Explain the role of medical providers in identifying and preventing dental caries in children
  • Discuss fluoride varnish risks and benefits
  • Discuss how oral health disease prevention services can be integrated into the medical home
  • Identify oral health resources available to primary care providers
